How Two Moms Built a FIT4MOM Business in San Diego

Some partnerships begin with a business plan. Others begin with a shared understanding of what motherhood really feels like.

For Tawnee and Cheryl, co-owners of FIT4MOM Balboa Park, Coronado, and Point Loma, their journey started the same way so many FIT4MOM stories do. They were simply moms looking for fresh air, connection, and a place to belong.

Today, Cheryl is mom to Blake (9) and Sloane (5), and Tawnee is mom to Kaden (14) and Madison (8) . They are also business owners, community builders, and leaders who have helped create a space where San Diego moms can find strength, friendship, and support during one of the most transformative seasons of life.

Their path to ownership was not something they planned. It was something they grew into, step by step, alongside the community they now lead.

Finding FIT4MOM When They Needed It Most

For Cheryl, FIT4MOM first appeared during maternity leave. At the time, she had stepped away from corporate America and was navigating the unfamiliar rhythm of new motherhood.

What she found in the class was more than a workout.

She found instructors who remembered her name. She found moms who understood the exhaustion and the joy. She found babies growing alongside her own.

“I fell in love with the instructors, the moms, and all the little kids,” she shared. “It quickly became something I looked forward to every day.”

For Tawnee, the introduction was even more organic. During the postpartum months, she spent her mornings walking through the park with her baby. She would pass FIT4MOM classes and watch from a distance.

One day, an instructor invited her to join. That invitation changed everything.

“Once I came, I was hooked,” she said.

Like so many moms, what started as a simple decision to attend one class became something much bigger. FIT4MOM became part of their routine, their support system, and their identity during early motherhood.

Protecting the Village They Loved

When the opportunity arose to take ownership of the FIT4MOM San Diego locations they loved so deeply, Tawnee and Cheryl knew it was not just about running a business. It was about protecting something meaningful.

They had already poured their hearts into the community. They had watched friendships form between moms and babies. They had experienced firsthand how powerful it is to feel seen and supported during motherhood. Ownership became a natural next step.

“We wanted to maintain the loving community we had built and ensure the legacy of supporting local moms continued,” they shared.

Their motivation was never about stepping away from motherhood. It was about strengthening the village that had helped carry them through it.

A Business Built Around Real Life

Unlike traditional career paths that often ask moms to separate their work and family lives, FIT4MOM allowed Tawnee and Cheryl to integrate both.

They continue to balance ownership alongside other professional responsibilities and family life. That flexibility is part of what makes FIT4MOM ownership so unique. It allows moms to build something meaningful without stepping away from the moments that matter most.

For many women exploring stay-at-home jobs or looking for opportunities that align with family life, FIT4MOM offers a path that feels both flexible and purposeful. As a home-based franchise, much of the work can be done around family schedules, school drop-offs, and everyday life.

It is also one of the more accessible low-cost franchises, especially compared to traditional brick-and-mortar businesses. FIT4MOM removes many of the barriers that prevent moms from exploring entrepreneurship in the first place.

But more than that, it creates the opportunity to build something lasting.

The Power of Partnership

One thing Tawnee and Cheryl both agree on is that ownership feels even more meaningful when shared.

“Being a franchise owner is more fun with a partner,” they said.

Their partnership allows them to support each other, share responsibilities, and continue growing the community they care about so deeply. It also reflects the very heart of FIT4MOM itself. Motherhood was never meant to be done alone.

That spirit of shared support extends beyond ownership. Their connection with other franchise owners across the country has been invaluable. The peer support, shared ideas, and encouragement create a network that makes ownership feel both doable and sustainable.

What They Love Most

Ask Tawnee and Cheryl what makes this work meaningful, and their answer comes back to the moms.

“Hearing from moms about how the FIT4MOM community has changed their experience as a mother,” they shared.

They have watched moms arrive feeling unsure and leave feeling confident. They have seen friendships that started in class grow into lifelong bonds. They have watched babies take their first steps alongside women stepping into new versions of themselves.

Their village has become a place where moms can show up exactly as they are.

“The fact that we've created a safe place for moms to come as they are and feel seen and supported means everything,” they said.

Building Something That Lasts

FIT4MOM Balboa Park, Coronado, and Point Loma continue to grow because of the foundation Tawnee and Cheryl have helped build. A place where fitness meets friendship. Where postpartum moms find strength. Where community becomes family.

For moms considering ownership, their advice is simple and honest.

“Be ready to work hard. Be ready to build community.”

Because at the heart of FIT4MOM ownership is not just a business. It is the chance to create something that supports families, strengthens moms, and leaves a lasting impact.

And for Tawnee and Cheryl, that impact is what makes every early morning, every class, and every conversation worth it.
